NGC Offers $10,000 for Breast Cancer Coin Design Winner

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) has announced that it will give $10,000 to the winner of the US Mint’s Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Public Design Competition if he or she agrees to individually hand-sign NGC labels.

This $10,000 bonus doubles the $10,000 prize that will be given by the US Mint to the person whose design is selected. Information on the US Mint Public Design Competition can be found at US Mint launches Breast Cancer Coin Design Competition.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Program calls for a clad half dollar, a silver dollar and, for the first time in US Mint history, a “pink gold” five dollar. The three denominations will be issued in 2018 with surcharges included in the price that will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

NGC launched its Signature Labels program in 2013 to give collectors the opportunity to own a unique and attractive collectible encapsulated with an NGC label hand-signed by an important hobby figure. The program now includes such well-known signers at Elizabeth Jones, the 11th US Mint Chief Engraver; John Mercanti, the 12th US Mint Chief Engraver; Edmund C. Moy, the 38th US Mint Director; and the Gov. Hon. Mike Castle, “The Coinage Congressman.”

The $10,000 bonus will be given if the design competition’s winner agrees to sign at least 5,000 labels exclusively for NGC. Additional signatures may be negotiated between NGC and the winner.

“NGC is always looking to find ways to attract new collectors and make the hobby more interesting,” says Mark Salzberg, chairman of NGC. “Pairing labels hand-signed by the designer with these commemorative coins creates a particularly special collectible.”
